CYFA 8th Grade Football joins Centennial Middle School to develop a stronger program

Since the Centennial Youth Football Association was formed in 2013 our goal has been to provide the best football experience possible for our youth while developing a strong football program at Centennial High School.  With that said we are constantly looking for ways to improve and one area we have had many meetings and discussions on over the years is regarding the 8th grade level.  Historically there have been two football programs for 8th grade Centennial families to choose from – school or association.  That has created a split for our football program and community.  Football is the ultimate team game and in order to build a stronger program we want everyone at each grade level to be on the same page.  With that in mind the CYFA board has made the decision that the best option for our youth is to have one football program for the 8th grade level at the middle school.  We feel having 8th grade football run by the middle school will be the best way to transition them into high school football for the following reasons:

  1. One “team”.  All 8th grade Centennial football players will be together in one program.
  2. Experienced coaches.  Many of them are teachers at the middle school and will work closely with the high school program running the offense and defense they run.
  3. Competitive schedule.  The 8th grade school program participates in the Suburban East conference and historically has formed teams by A and B level for games, but they practice together as one team.  However, team formation won’t officially be determined until August.
  4. Family friendly schedule.  All practices and games will be after school during the week.  There will be no weekend commitments.  The season will start the last week in August and end by MEA break.
  5. Cost.  The middle school program offers equipment to all players and costs less than the CYFA program did (which required players to provide their own equipment).
  6. Transportation.  The school program provides transportation to and from games.

This decision was made solely by the CYFA board as we feel it will be the best football experience for Centennial 8th grade players.  Registration for 8th grade football will be available sometime in July and we will help communicate any updates on the school program as the season gets closer.   If there are any questions or concerns please contact: info@centennialyouthfootball.com
